The journey from New York to Boston, and from thence to Bangor, savors of the nineteenth century, but from Bangor to Ellsworth, and from Ellsworth to Southwest Harbor, speaks loudly of the eighteenth." The freshly renovated Rodick House is garnished with new trees planted and braced on the lawn. There are board sidewalks at the edge of the dirt road which, in turn, is garnished with manure from the many carriage horses shown in the picture.
